Concetto by Saveur @ The Cathay

Supposedly planned heading to 18chef having dinner on Friday but at the end we change our mind after pass by this restaurant call Concetto by Saveur.

Concetto by Saveur, an Italian dining concept that replaces the former premises of Billy Bombers. It's located next to Starbucks at The Cathay. The atmosphere here is comfortable, simple interior design and laid back feel.

The place is simply decorated with cement floor, cement seat by the wall and plain white chair.

For starter, we ordered Mushroom Soup (S$5.90).

For main course, my hubby ordered Pollo Ollo (S$16.90) a pan-seared boneless chicken; stuffed with mushroom duxelle; served with fork mashed potato, shimeiji & cognac cream sauce. The chicken was tender and juicy.

As for me, I got the Salmon (S$18.90) served with pearl cous cous, oyster and pickled shallots.

Overall the food is good, cheap and affordable. Total we spent S$55 (inclusive 10% service charge & 7% GST). Even though the portions look small but we felt stuffed and it's value for the price you pay.

Ambush @ Jem

Headed over to Ambush for dinner with my stepson and brother-in-law at Jem Shopping Centre. Reached at about 7:30pm on a Monday night and there wasn't a queue. Got served to our seat right away.

Ambush is a restaurant that serves casual European cuisines. Its located on the 4th floor of Jem Shopping Centre.

The food menu is presented in a form newspaper format with four full pages of the food.

We placed our orders and serving was within 20 minutes time.

My brother-in-law ordered Chicken Schnitzel (S$17.50), a deep fried breaded chicken breast served with creamy sauce mushroom sauce, sauerkraut & fries. According to my brother-in-law, the deep fried chicken breast was so hard to cut it off. Was quite disappointed...

My stepson had the Italian Pasta Mixed Seafood (medley of prawns, white clams & mussels) with Marinara Sauce (S$12.80) and he love it as pasta is always his favorite dishes.

For the pasta, you could choose the type of pasta you wanted - spaghetti, linguine or penne. My stepson chose linguine as spaghetti was run out of stock that night.

I got myself a Filet De Saumon En Croute De Sesame (S$17.80). The salmon was rather dry still reasonably tasty, nothing extraordinary.

Overall, not a decent dining experience. The service staff was friendly but we took a very long time to attract their attention to order the food and pay the bill.

Paradise Dynasty (乐天皇朝) @ Westgate

Had my dinner with my hubby few weeks ago at Westgate Paradise Dynasty restaurant. Our first attempt dining at Paradise Dynasty. Nicely decorated, oriented setting and cutlery.

Paradise Dynasty is a casual dining restaurant offering both northern and southern Chinese Cuisine. The restaurant is known for its colorful Xiao Long Bao with different flavors.

The menu offering to me is very similar to Din Tai Fung except for the Flavored Xiao Long Bao.

 Mixed Dumpling (皇朝小笼包) (8 pcs) - S$13.80

The colorful xiao long bao is very creative and definitely a must try! You have to eat this in order: original (pork), ginseng, foie gras, black truffles, crab roe, cheese, garlic and Szechuan. We only go for the original flavor, the other flavors are just weird! Ding Tai Fung better in my opinion.

Chilled Assorted Eggs Loaf (三色玛瑙蛋) - S$6.00

Wok-fried Rice with Shrimp (雪菜虾仁炒饭) - S$10.80

Fried Rice in Shanghai Style (上海炒饭)- S$10.80

Sweet and Sour Fish with Mixed Fruit (鲜果糖醋鱼片) - S$14.00

Sauteed Spinach with Minced Garlic (蒜耳清炒菠菜 ) - S$10.80

Chilled Mango Pudding - S$4.50

Chilled Aloe Vera and Onmanthus Jelly in Honey Lemon Juice - S$3.50

Our total bill came up to S$100.05 for two person for a meal of 9 dishes and tea. Staffs were well-trained, services was friendly and prompt.

Generally, all the dishes are not too bad. I think it depends on your taste bud then.

Bon Apetite!

The restaurant signature dish. Poulét, pronounced "poo-lay", means chicken in French. The chicken is brined for a full day in a traditional recipe then placed in the rotisserie for a slow roast until the skin tans to a golden brown. They also added their homemade Mushroom Chardonnay Sauce.

Overall, Poulét is an affordable french restaurant that serves portions that are just right.

My 2nd visit to Fern & Kiwi at Clarke Quay.

Revisited this place again for dinner date together with my hubby on Friday night (10 Jan'14). We were seated on second floor.

The service here is friendly and attentive. One of the staff who attended us last time still recognize us. Which is kinda hard to find, and making our experience even better there.

The squid was beautifully cooked and crunchy! Generous portions for individual or for sharing.

For the drinks, I ordered a glass of their in house wine which recommended by the staff. As for my hubby, he ordered champagne cocktail which he never tried before. The drinks was good and tasted great.

On to the mains!

Grilled Royal Pork Chop (S$43.50/++)

For my hubby, he ordered Grilled Royal Pork Chop. The pork chop was juicy and tender. According to my hubby, the pork chop doesn't even taste like pork chop, it's more like a steak! lolx!

For me, I ordered a New Zealand King Salmon Fillet. The salmon was really well done.

Total of our bill for that night was S$153.01 for 2 pax inclusive of GST and service charge, By using the voucher from Groupon (S$100 voucher), we end up paying S$53.00.

Soup of the day - Old Cucumber Soup (老黄瓜排骨汤 )

For our main course, we ordered this Deep-Fried Prawn with Cereal. One of the most popular and well loved Tze Char (煮炒 ) stall dishes in Singapore. This is absolutely finger-licking good!

Deep-Fried Prawn with Cereal

Move on, we ordered this one of the restaurant signature dish -Traditional Bake Salty Chicken with Rock Salt. The chicken was kinda salty and the meat was too dry.

Traditional Bake Salty Chicken with Rock Salt (粗盐炬鸡)

The vegetable soup was light and nice.
Poached Local Spinach Cabbage (鲜腐竹泡菜苗)

We also ordered another of their most popular dish - the Flaming Kurobuta Pork with Special Sauce. The dish tastes and likes those ordinary black pepper pork.

Flaming Kurobuta Pork with Special Sauce
